Oriental Golf Day attracts 110 players
Prizes on offer this year, valued at over R50 000, certainly lived up to what has become a trademark of this day.
The highly acclaimed Charlie’s Superspar Oriental Golf Day, which was held at the Dundee Country Club on Sunday, certainly lived up to its billing as a major golfing attraction.
This annual event has over the past 20-odd years entrenched itself as a special brand, and the 2019 edition was once again a resounding success. 110 enthusiastic golfers from across the country enjoyed another memorable golfing experience and all golfers, sponsors and well-wishers were unambiguous in their praise for the excellent manner in which the day was presented.
The presence of the main sponsors, George and Jane Adalis from Charlies Superspar, was especially well-received. Guests and participants were treated to a tantalising Spring Day breakfast spread prepared by Jane and her magnificent team, and thereafter the usual, sumptuous Oriental Day lunch was served.
Prizes on offer this year, valued at over R50 000, certainly lived up to what has become a trademark of this day. It was Bilaal Rassool of Dundee, on 42 points, who took home the trophy and a cellphone valued at R15 000, with the ever-friendly Mark Nero second and golfing veteran, Joe Khumalo in third place.
Kameel Kalideen was awarded for being the youngest golfer. A special award also went to Ernest Ngidi, who is now in his 80s but remains a regular visitor and golfer.
Event organiser, DunPro expressed its sincere gratitude to Charlies’ Superspar, Cosmic Transport, Shisalanga Construction, Puma, Buffalo Coal Dundee, Deans Auto Spares, Chans Harry’s Transport, The Car Guru, Waka-Waka Blocks and the numerous other sponsors, who contributed to the successful hosting of the 2019 Oriental Golf Day.
Saturday’s competition: 27 players took part in Saturday’s club competition. Marc Bradbury won on 40 points, with Anthon Raubenheimer second on 38 points. Marc carded two clubs on Holes 4 and 6, while Anthon won the jackpot.
The club also congratulated Rigardt Albertse on winning his first open amateur tournament, held at Mbombela Golf Club in Mpumalanga.
“May this be the first of many. The club is proud of you.”
