Two day festival delivers the cricket season’s first sting
Local cricketers gathered at Vryheid Cricket Club last weekend to celebrate the start of the new club cricket season in the best way they know how... on the pitch.
Six teams came together for two days of exhilarating cricket in the opening festival as they battled it out on the pitch in match after match of the “gentleman’s game” and put on a spectacular show for friends and family who turned up to support the players.

Participating teams were Gladiators, Mondlo, Mr X, Pak CC, Spartans and Wicket Wasps.
Despite it’s reputation as “the gentleman’s game” there was one young lady who stood out among the men. Teen cricket sensation, 17-year-old Kayla High, earned her accolades within the club as she took a hat-trick on Saturday playing for Mr X in a match against the Pak CC team.

The festival was played out in the Aitken Cup format, with 15 overs and 8-a-side, last man standing and, on Sunday, it came down to Wicket Wasps vs Mr X in the final.
