Local ballerinas ‘en pointe’ for stardom
En Pointe students received 17 distinctions (awarded for a grading of 80 per cent and above), eight merits (for scoring between 60 and 79 per cent) and one pass (achieving 40 to 59 per cent).
Vryheid ballerinas have danced with distinction at the Dance Academy of South Africa (DASA) ballet examinations.
After much excitement in the build-up to the exams on August 26, the ballerinas of En Pointe Ballet Studio brought home no less than 17 distinctions.
Instructor, Kerryn Shapiro proudly stated the hours of hard work had truly paid off.
En Pointe students received 17 distinctions (awarded for a grading of 80 per cent and above), eight merits (for scoring between 60 and 79 per cent) and one pass (achieving 40 to 59 per cent).
“This is a new art to Vryheid, and most of these students have never attended a ballet class in their life before. Some have never even danced before,” explained Shapiro. “I am so proud of these girls, who have dedicated their time each week to take on the difficulties of classical ballet. I have watched their love for dance grow and it is so beautiful to see.”
