Mortimer Monthly Mug goes to Nkosinathi Khuzwayo

Nkosinathi Khuzwayo started playing at the beginning of the year – off a 28 handicap – and improved to such an extent that he won the Mortimer Monthly Mug ahead of many players who have tried for years to win a mug.

Nkosinathi has been practicing a lot and you cannot deny the fact that he is passionate about the game. Now playing off a 16 handicap, he scored a nett 69 and 39 points ahead of Roy Unsworth on nett 71.
Spare a thought for Roy, who, on the 15th, was only three over for the day when the Devil told him to aim for the left of number 15. He promptly posted a 10 on that hole to score a nett 71. On nett 72 was the ever-so-steady Deejay Ramdhav.
The Stableford was won by Nkosi, Deejay and Sam, who recovered tremendously to be able to play. Closest to the pin on number 2 was Luke Schiever, who manages this feat just about every monthly mug. Rules should be put in place that he only be allowed to play a five iron off the tee.
Two-clubs were scored by Gordon Smith, Sam Sewsunker and Luke Schiever. The jackpot was won by Yusuf Manjoo on 12 points. Spring treatment started on Monday and will finish on Friday.
The Rite Watch better-ball will still be played on Wednesday and when you are on the green, you can either take a two-putt or have a go at it, missing and then picking up for a two-putt.
The Wednesday competition was won by Richard Naidoo and Shane Moodley on 45 points, followed by Henry Honiball and Deejay Ramdhav on 44 points. Third were Luke Schiever and Gordon Smith on 43 points.
Gordon was closest to the pin and also made a two-club on number 3, as did Richard Naidoo on number 16. The Pick ‘n Pay nine-hole competition was won by Naren Naidoo on 18 points.
This Saturday is sponsored by the club and the greens will test your ability to adapt on different surfaces.
