Athletes scale the mighty Sani Pass

This race starts at the top of Sani Pass in Lesotho and continues down past the border post.

The end of the year brought with it the mighty yet beautiful Sani Stagger races.
Congratulations to Lario Eybers (2:42) and Bernice Harding (2:39) for completing the 21,1 kilometre ‘down run’, on tough terrain and on a very hot Saturday.
This race starts at the top of Sani Pass in Lesotho and continues down past the border post.
Melissa Scheepers also attempted the mighty 42,2km race, which starts at the bottom of Sani Pass and is run up to the top and back.
She was doing exceptionally well before falling seven kilometres from the finish. “So sorry to hear that, Melissa. We hope you heal well – much love!”
The Josiah Gumede Marathon was also held in Bergville over the weekend.
VAC athletes who took on the 42,2km event were: Mandla Mnisi (3:30:56), Bongani Msimango (3:33:10) and Mcebisi Msezane (2:57:04).
Bongani Ndlovu (1:20:05) completed the 21,1km race.
Athletes who challenged the 10km run were: Nokwazi Ndlela (58:49) and Bongiwe (59:30), which was her first 10km race.
“Congratulations to all.”
VAC reminds its members and invites new athletes to join the club on December 5 for its Christmas Run.
Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed competitor.
“Please check Facebook and WhatsApp groups for details.”
VAC’s last long distance run takes place on December 7, starting from Wimpy and ending with socialising over a cup of coffee.
All residents are invited to take part and to join the club.
“We would love to have you.”
