Gruelling uphills challenge local riders in Jo’burg cycle race
Speaking to some of the local riders, they said the race was amazing but incredibly tough on the legs

The Discovery 947 Ride Joburg took place on Sunday, November 17, with the start and finish at Riversands Commercial Park in Johannesburg.
Siegetown Wheelers members were out in full force at the event, with 15 riders from Ladysmith taking part.
Every year without fail, the event draws cyclists from all around the country and even overseas.
Between 20,000 and 30,000 cyclists took part this year.
Men, women and children set off from the start line at 5.30am as they embarked on the ultra-tough 94.7km course. Many para-cyclists were seen riding alongside the able-bodied riders.

This year, the event also offered a 40km fun ride, which had plenty of support.
The Ladysmith cyclists enjoyed the scenic views along the way, such as the Nelson Mandela Bridge as the route goes through the CBD, past the Johannesburg Zoo and also a section through the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit where you actually ride the entire circuit.
Speaking to some of the local riders, they said the race was amazing but incredibly tough on the legs, as there are many climbs along the way.
The Siegetown Wheelers members said they will definitely be back to compete again next year.
