Oval Track ready to ‘race’ funds for Child Welfare Newcastle

An amount of R5 from each adult entry ticket on the day will be donated to the Child Welfare.

The Newcastle Oval Track will use its monthly race meeting this Saturday, to raise funds for Child Welfare Newcastle.

“Giving back to our community is something very special to our club. Every year we try to raise awareness, and this time we are standing strong to be a voice against child abuse, human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse and gender inequality,” said Oval Track member, Zaakira Khan.

Gaining inspiration from humanitarian, Mother Teresa, Khan reiterated: “We can’t all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”

An amount of R5 from each adult entry ticket on the day will be donated to the local branch of Child Welfare.

“We will be collecting pre-loved clothes, school uniforms, school shoes, toys and more. We will have a drop-off box stationed at the ticket office, should you wish to donate,” explained Khan.

As part of the club’s Love Box Campaign, members also urged the community to donate stationery, sandwich spreads, lunch boxes, canned food, baby cosmetics and diapers for the benefit of Home Meah and Volksrust’s Louis Hildebrandt Children’s Home, and to less fortunate schools in Newcastle.

Gates open at 2pm on the day and races will begin at 6pm.

“Everyone’s presence will really make a difference and help us raise funds for the welfare of children,” concluded Khan.
