Treverton staff are good role models

Year after year, staff members are involved in demanding sporting events and become role models to the learners; 2014 has been no exception

Treverton pupils are encouraged to develop self-confidence by learning to know their strengths through taking on challenges and succeeding, many of these tests are self-disciplined sporting events… but it is not only theoretical encouragement by the staff. Year after year, staff members are involved in demanding sporting events and become role models to the learners; 2014 has been no exception.
In February, the Prep’s Sports Coordinator Div Bebb swam his 25th consecutive Midmar Mile, leading a group of Prep pupils to also swim in the event. A large number of College students also swam.
The Head of Resources Bob Reynolds ignored the traditional rivalry between Treverton and Weston Agricultural College, and teamed up with Weston’s Principal Paul Tait to take on the Dusi Challenge in the annual Dusi Canoe marathon.
They paddled as a doubles’ pair in the Veteran’s class.
After months of disciplined training and taking part in qualifying events, they took on the Dusi with its hazards and exhausting poterage, and they not only completed the race, but were placed third in their class. Mr Tait is a seasoned canoeist. Last year the Prep’s Deputy Headmaster Marc Schulze and Executive Head Noel Coetzee rode in the Argus cycle race.
This year, they returned to take part in the event and were joined by Dave Purdon the College Deputy Headmaster: Academics. Purdon was no novice to the event as this was the 12th race.
All three men completed the race with Schulze finishing 245th out of a field of cyclists in excess of 30 000.
These three staff members were not the only Trevertonians to take part in the race; they were joined by two talented College girls, Holly McCarthy and Micaela Sclanders who also passed the finish line!
