College’s winning ways.
In early March, Treverton College’s impressive swimming team took part in the annual PMB and Districts’ High Schools’ Co-Ed Gala, the pinnacle of the swimming season in the area and one, which Treverton has won on many occasions. Despite the bad weather, the Treverton swimmers’ spirits were not dampened, and from the very first race, the swimmers showed their determination and winning approach. This was the same form that has enabled them to win three galas this term. Throughout the afternoon, with team celebrated by winning many first places and some exceptional individual efforts took place. Treverton’s senior boys’ Victor Ludorum Sam Scherer received a similar title when he won Boys U19 Victor Ludorum title and Micaela Sclanders the school’s senior Victrix Ludorum was the Girls U16 Victrix Ludorum. The school’s final positions were that the Treverton girls were placed first and the boys’ team achieved second place, and Treverton finished overall in first position at the gala! Thus, College swimmers ended the season as the best Co-Ed swimming school in the Midlands and Pietermaritzburg area. The gala took place at the Alex Swimming Baths in Pietermaritzburg.
Prep’s swimming success
The Prep Swimming team for 2014 has had a very successful season. They took part in five galas, going to Winterton, Gert Maritz, Northern Park, the Inter-Prep B Gala at Epworth and the Junior C Gala at St Anne’s. The U12 swimming relay team had a particularly good season as they were only beaten in two races. The swimmers in the team were Matthew Smith, Grace George, Kyla Gogle, Ross Fallet, Beth Van Onselen and Luke Doyle. At the Epworth B gala the Prep achieved a fifth position out of the nine teams competing and in the Junior C gala the swimmers came fourth out of ten schools. They won the gala at Northern Park. Coach Di Tanner remarked on the excellent team spirit that the swimmers exhibited, especially as the Prep has a smaller enrolment than some of the other competing schools.
