Grey skies, high spirits
The boys under 12 race saw a new record being set by Asanda Mazibuko with a brilliant time of 14:32 seconds
Friday morning dawned loaded with anticipation for the learners of St Gregory Primary School. September 23 marked the final facedown between the Eagles and the Falcons to determine the house winners of 2016.
Learners wearing their yellow or green flocked to Lambert Park despite the threatening rain. Spirits were high as both houses paraded past the excited spectators before the events started. The pre-school learners started off the races with the hula hoop race.
The grade ones also indulged the crowd with their remarkable co-ordination. The program effortlessly flowed into the first sprinting events, which was the 80m races for the U4’s to U9’s.

This was followed by potato and spoon race, much to the enjoyment of all. The day turned serious as first the juniors and then the seniors took to the track for the 100m sprint.
The boys under 12 race saw a new record being set by Asanda Mazibuko with a brilliant time of 14:32 seconds. After these races the parents had a chance to battle it out on the track.
The 200m sprints for the U9 to U14 learners followed. The little ones competed in sack races before the day’s events were finished off with relay races. The 4×100m boys mixed relay was surely the most spectacular race of the day.
The Eagles’ team was trailing by quite a distance, but Asanda Mazibuko decided that he would have none of that. He tore down the track and not only closed the distance, but overtook his opponent to secure a fantastic win for his house. The day concluded with a prize giving ceremony.

The winners were as follows:
Fantastic run Girls U4-U6: Ziyanda Gamede.
Fantastic run Boys U4-U6: Collins Bere.
Junior Junior Victrix Ludorum (U7-U9): Thandiswa Mzobe.
Junior Junior Victor Ludorum (U7-U9): Sithokomele Nhlanbathi.
Junior Victrix Ludorum (U10-U11): Amahle Dladla.
Junior Victor Ludorum (U10-U11): Aphiwe Mazibuko.
Victrix Ludorum (U12-Open): Naledi Mayisela.
Victor Ludorum (U12-Open): Asanda Mazibuko.
Well done to all these learners.
The Falcons won the Athletics Trophy and the Eagles unfaltering spirit ensured that the Spirit Trophy returned to their House. Thank you to all the family and friends who came and supported our learners. A big thank you also goes out to the staff, especially Mrs Schaeffer and Miss Swanson for organising the event.
