Carnegie plays host to Quilters Guild
The work produced by the South African Quilters Guild is really something extraordinary to behold.
From playful interpretations of life, the universe and everything in it to profound reflections as to what it all means, the eighth travelling exhibition of the South African Quilters Guild is really something extraordinary to behold.
The Carnegie Art Gallery is currently playing host to the Quilters Guild, showcasing South Africa’s quilt artists’ talent and enabling people living in outlying areas to view and appreciate the work of the country’s top quilt artists.
Curator of the gallery, Judy Jordan, said the aim of the travelling exhibitions was not only to bring the public in contact with quilting but also to inspire and motivate the ‘uninitiated’ to start enjoying the creativity quilting brings.
“Good composition, wonderful use of colour and exciting designs make this a visually stimulating exhibition. There is certainly variety from the favourite traditional techniques to the excitement of artistic quilts. The techniques used should give the general public the opportunity to appreciate different aspects of quilt making,” said Mrs Jordan.The exhibition is on view only until January 30. Visiting hours at the Carnegie Art Gallery are 9am to 5pm Mondays to Fridays and 9am to 12pm on Saturdays.
