How strange can addictions be?

Some of the strangest addictions we could find.

There are certain things people cannot go without, but there times when desire gives way and what was once a casual occurrence becomes an addiction.

While addictions are most commonly linked to drugs and alcohol, there are times when a person might find their addiction taking a somewhat unusual turn.

Here are some of the strangest addictions:

Funeral addiction:

This addiction, while a bit dark, is so rare that it hasn’t even got a name yet.

A man in Brazil claims to be suffering from an addiction to funerals and has attended every single funeral in his town for the past 20 years.

His addiction to funerals has actually seen him quit his job so that he is able to attend the departure of the recently deceased.

In the mornings, first thing he does is listen to the radio to hear if anyone has died, or else he calls the local morgue or hospital.

Eating toilet paper

While being a laughable addiction, people who suffer from this addiction start tasting the soft-ply from an early age, and are enchanted by the taste and smell.

Addicts can go through several sheets, while some might consume an entire roll. The real danger comes in when some individuals will eat nothing but toilet paper for an entire day.

Pica (Dirt-Eating) Addictions

Pica is a psychological disorder that compels people to eat things without any nutritional content.

This can range from earthy things like dirt, mud, and clay to more hazardous items like coins and buttons. People with this addiction can get very ill or die from either malnutrition or the consumption of dangerous items like nails and tacks.

Reading addiction

While picking up a book and losing yourself to it is nothing bad or out of the ordinary, getting hooked on reading to the point where you don’t want to go to work because you can’t stop reading, or neglect to have a decent meal or sleep properly, is a problem.

The irresistible impulse to continuously  read might be caused by an unhealthy need to escape into, and stay in, a fantasy world conjured up by literature.

While addictions are generally undesirable and frowned upon, this addiction can see the addict not only being more intelligent but holding rather interesting conversations.

Coffee enema

This has to be one of the strangest addictions. A couple from Florida, USA, have this rather unique addiction and have said they cannot leave their home for long periods of time due to their need and work from home.
