Yudesh and Arthie bind their love
“Life has many chapters, and marrying you is the biggest and most important chapter in my life."
Love can creep up at the most unsuspecting times, as Arthie and Yudesh Dookie found out.
Arthie said she and Yudesh had known each other for a very long time before they fell in love.
“Yudesh and my brother are best friends. But our friendship and relationship actually began when we accidentally met at a club in Johannesburg through mutual friends.”
Proposal
After a relationship of four years, the couple went to Mauritius for Yudesh’s 30th birthday and it was there that he popped the question.
“On one of the excursions, where we had to walk under water, feeding fish, he popped out the ring and got down on his knees. Needless to say, the fish surrounded the ring before I could even see it. I actually thought he had fallen.”
How they knew they were meant for each other
Arthie said she knew Yudesh was the one for her by the way he made her felt.
“He makes me happy, he makes me smile and I have butterflies just thinking about him.”
Yudesh added he too knew Arthie was the one through the emotions he felt.
“You just know when you find that special person. You never want to spend a day apart. You never want anything but the best for them.”
Wedding preparations
Arthie said she had an enormous amount of help from her mother mum, sister-in-law and brother.
“About 90 per cent of the stress was carried by them. I just told them what I wanted and what I envisioned and they brought it all together. It was fun, and I guess it brought the family closer together, working as a team towards a common goal, which was a fairytale wedding.”
Wedding
The wedding took place on 7 December 2013, and had a peacock theme with a colour scheme of green, blue, silver and a touch of red.
Yudesh wore a shirwani, which is a traditional suit consisting of a long coat with a formal pants with lots of beadwork.
Arthie wore a traditional bridal outfit, which looks like a sari, but according to Arthie, it is much more comfortable to wear and handle. “It comprised of a long heavy skirt, a top and a long heavy scarf draped around my head.”
Taking place at Phumula Nathi’s main hall, in front of 500 guests, Yudesh and Arthie became husband and wife.
Rings
Arthie has an 18-carat white gold princess-cut diamond ring and Yudesh a plain 9-carat white gold band with black detail.
Food
Traditional vegetable biryani, dhal, salads, pickles and soji.

Peacock printed card.
Cake
Instead of a wedding cake, the couple opted for lots of traditional sweetmeats, such as burfee and ladoos.
Honeymoon
After the wedding, the couple made off to Thailand for their honeymoon.
Settling down
After their honeymoon, Arthie who is a radiation therapist, and Yudesh who is a director of an IT company, settled down in Johannesburg.
Yudesh’s message to Arthie:
“Life has many chapters, and marrying you is the biggest and most important chapter in my life. When I chose to put that ring on your finger, I chose you for life and I promise you from this day forward I will move heaven and earth to keep you happy, safe and forever smiling. You are my life and without you I would have lost my happiness. Love you now and forever…”
Arthie’s message to Yudesh
“On this day forward you shall not walk alone, but my heart will be your shelter and my arms will be your home. As I have given you my hand to hold, I give you my life to keep. Together, united as one, we shall overcome all life’s obstacles and be eternally happy… Love you lots my angel.”
