Pay the tax for your tekkies

Last year, Tekkie Tax raised almost R2.5-million, far beyond expectation.

This amount benefited in excess of 180 local welfare organisations, with proceeds distributed last November.

According to a recent press release issued by Tekkie Tax marketers, 34 per cent of participants purchased the C or children sticker, making this the most supported sector in 2013.

In response to Tekkie Tax 2013, organisers said gratitude from beneficiaries was overwhelming.

This year, the Tekkie Tax team has presented the public another opportunity to show where their hearts lie, and to purchase stickers for R10 from any participating organisations.

Stickers can also be purchased from the Tekkie Tax website.

“Depending on where your heart lies, you can choose any of the five sectors to support when buying your sticker/s (and yes, you may choose more than one),” the press release read.

The sectors are: Animals, Basic Family Care, Children, Disability or Education.

On May 30 (Tekkie Tax day), residents must wear the bigger sticker on their lapel and the smaller on their cellphone for the rest of the year, while remembering to wear tekkies with any outfit.

If you need to spiff up your tekkies, buy a pair of their funky shoelaces or Tekkie Tags for R30 (sticker included).

The Tekkie Tax campaign is endorsed by a total of 15 of the biggest and most accountable national NGOs in the country, representing more than 1 000 local organisations.

Annelise de Jager, the national project organiser explained the importance of this fact.

“Saving money is always an important issue but saving money in a fundraising campaign is vital. With 15 national welfare organisations working together, we are able to keep the costs of the project lower than any other campaign of its kind. We are not re-inventing the wheel but we are changing the face of fundraising in SA!”
