Meeting

“We met at work, while we were both serving articles,” said Urisha.

Knowing they were meant for each other

The couple’s meeting proved to be an equation that clearly equalled love. When asked how she knew Neemalen was the one for her, Urisha joked and said it was his height. “But seriously, it is the feeling I get whenever he is around,” said Urisha. For Neemalen, he said whenever Urisha was not around, it felt like a part of him was missing.

“Oh, and her cooking,” he joked.

Proposing

Knowing Urisha was the woman for him, Neemalen decided it was time to ask her to spend her life with him. “He planned a weekend away at the Drakensberg. One of the activities was a hot air balloon ride and he proposed when we were over the clouds,” said Urisha.

Wedding preparations

Urisha explained it took a year to plan the wedding day. “As we travel a lot for work, we were not in Pietermaritzburg all the time. It was a lot of fun choosing clothes and everything that goes with it. The décor of the hall took time as we didn’t use the stage, but we were lucky that the décor company was excellent and put together what we wanted,’ explained Urisha. The colour scheme for the occasion was cream, gold and black.

Wedding

The wedding took place in front of 750 people at the Truro Hall in Pietermaritzburg.

On the big day, Neemalen wore a traditional Hindu suit that was tailored for him in Durban, while Urisha wore a red, cream and gold sari.

Rings

Urisha’s ring is white gold with a centre tanzanite, surrounded by smaller diamonds and two diamond bands attached. Neemalen’s ring has yellow gold on the outer part, and white gold in the centre.

Food

Vegetarian breyani, dhal and soji, served with fresh cream and flake.

Guest souvenirs

Guests were given traditional home-made sweets.

Wedding cake

The wedding cake was a one layer vanilla fresh creamcake with the word ‘congratulations’ written across it. “It was not cut at the wedding, but rather at the function that took place after the wedding,” said Urisha.

Honeymoon

After the wedding day, the couple had their honeymoon in Dubai, Bangkok and Bali.

Settling down

The couple settled in Pietermaritzburg.

Neemalen’s message to Urisha

“I fell in love with you when I least expected it and till today that is the best moment of my life. You are everything I could have ever asked for and so much more. Thank you for being you. The best part of our lives has just started and I’m sure the rest will be amazing as long as I have you by my side. Love you babe.”

“Thank you for being my shoulder to cry on and for sharing my laughter when I’m happy. Love is a special gift from God and you haven’t truly lived until you find your other half (even if he is much taller than you). God has given me my best friend to spend the rest of my life with. I love you more than I did yesterday and I’m loving every minute of this new journey with you.”
