The pro’s and cons of choosing to remain single

The pro’s and cons of choosing to remain single, and avoiding the messy complications of commitment, need to be weighed carefully, and then ultimately, as individuals, we need to do what is best for ourselves.

“The quality of your life is the quality of your relationships.” -Anthony Robbins

Marriage or even long-term relationships are often the main reason behind many people ‘going round the bend’. For others, the comfort and security that commitment offers, is something they could not live without.

As in life, choices need to be made about relationships. Choices that are often not thought through properly, and people end up getting hurt. Or they fall hopelessly in love, and live a happy life with the perfect partner.

The pro’s and cons of choosing to remain single, and avoiding the messy complications of commitment, need to be weighed carefully, and then ultimately, as individuals, we need to do what is best for ourselves.

The Pro’s of choosing to remain single:

No responsibility towards anyone. Want to come home at 4 am? You can, and there will be no need to duck as a rolling pin is swung at your head.
You are, in the broad sense of the word, free. To make your own choices, and live your own life.
No reason to explain your decisions to anyone. Orange couch? Pizza for breakfast? For the single person, easy as one, two, three…
You are free to explore all avenues, and meet some amazing people, without jealousy intruding on your new found friendships.
You can concentrate on your career with a single minded doggedness. Working late? No problem.

The Cons of choosing to remain single:

You will have no one to share your dreams and achievements with.
When it’s winter, and you’re cold, there is no warm body next to you to snuggle up against.
For the majority of conflicts in your life, you will be alone. No one to back you up, even when you are wrong.
Single people struggle to find security. Financially, it is very difficult to be independent.

For the vast majority of us, we find ourselves in relationships that don’t really work, but we stick it out, hoping that change can be the saviour. For others, they could imagine nothing better in the world than being with their partner.

Easier said than done, but before you enter your next relationship, make your own list of pro’s and cons. If the pro’s outnumber the cons, your decision should be so much easier.
