Teens determined to capture dreams
Skilled dancers from the academy performed live during a Morning Live broadcast on SABC 2, and the Newcastle Winter Festival also made use of the dancers during some of the events at the show.
The Jai Ho Academy of Dance headed by Grade 11 Saint Oswald’s Secondary pupil and lead choreographer, Nikita Morrison Young, is striving to awaken a love for dance within the community.
At the age of only 17, Ms Young is not letting school hold her back from exploring and expressing herself through dance.
“I’ve found a balance between school and dance. I know I have to study for my future, but I also love to feed the passion I have for dance,” she said.

With seven people already in the dance academy, it is quite clear Ms Young is eager to share her talents.
“Anyone who wants to join us, can. If you have a passion for dance, we will help you. We will guide you and help you grow,” enthused Ms Young.
She wished to clear up the misconception that the academy concentrated on the Eastern style of dance, and said the academy concentrated on dance as a whole, exploring all avenues of this art form.
A sister organisation to Jai Ho, is the SAS Digital Harmonics group of young professional sound engineers, run by young go-getter, Avikar Singh.
Jai Ho handles the dance, and SAS ensures the academy has the best tunes and sounds to dance to for wonderful performances.
“Our love for dance and music has been with us for a very long time; we were probably born with it,” laughed Mr Singh.
He advised teens of Newcastle to follow the path laid down before them by God, believing a person would never fail if you chose what you wanted.
