Whatsapp’s new introduction stirs trouble with users

Social media has become an important facet of modern day life.
It is hard to go through a day without checking your cell phone for the latest update, or logging onto your favorite social media platform to have your voice heard.
In essence, it allows the ideology of freedom of speech to become easily accessible to all.
On the surface, social media may seem to be a boon to the world, but more often than not social media has been proven to ruin: relationships, reputations and jobs.
It keeps us connected, but at the same time it keeps the world connected to us.
One application many people have grown to have a love/hate relationship with, is Whatsapp.
Whatsapp is a messaging application that uses tiny amounts of data, making it a viable option for those with the right phone.
Although Whatsapp has kept many people connected, there has been a function on its system many people hated… the ‘Last Seen’ function.
This has been the bane of all those people who choose not to reply to messages, be it because they were too busy, too tired, did not want to talk to the other person, or simply did not care.
When a person is trying to get hold of you, and you log quickly on and off of your account, it shows you have been online, even though you did not reply to or read any messages. For some, knowing you have been online, but chosen not to reply is too much to handle, and breeds the start of an argument, broken heart or worse.
You could turn off this function, but when you do that, you lose your chance of seeing when the person you are chatting with, was last online.
Now, with its latest update Whatsapp has taken their privacy invading skills, by including a read message symbol in chats. If you have downloaded the latest Whatsapp update, you will notice two blue ticks, in chats that were never present before.
These ticks inform the chat participant the person they are talking to has read the message, and should be replying… but what if they do not?
Simply, Whatsapp’s desginers have tried to make the application more user friendly and fun, but for many people, it has become more of a hazard to use.
It is not like people can avoid using this function at the moment. Whatsapp updates are compuslory or the application will not work. If you are using android, iOS, or any other Whatsapp supported system, this change will be forced upon you.
Internet memes have already begun developing with the launch of the new feature, and the internet can be a mean, sarcastic and funny place.
The twitter-sphere exploded as well, with #whatsapp trending globally as people noticed the changes.
