At 14 years old, this talented Ermelo High student recently starred in a broadway performance musical showcase called ‘Swing, Swing, Swing,’ produced by Diana and Ferdinand Gerhardt of FadInc, and infused with the pizzazz of the 1920’s and 1930’s.
Within the two weeks leading up to the performance, Megan and the other students were given a first hand taste of the world of showbiz, starting off with vocal training by Marlee Van Der Merwe, head character of the Afrikaans musical, Pretville. Professionals in the industry provided training in choreography and acting, as well as recording of songs and monologues. This was followed by a Hair and Makeup workshop by Follicle Hair Atelier.
In the second week, all their hard work came together and, on April 1 and 2, the production was performed for an audience of over 1000 people.
“Megan started dancing at the age of four and couldn’t stop,” writes Megan’s proud mother, Marina. “At the age of 12 she performed at several competitions and shows.”
She participated at SADI (South African Dance Competition) in 2014 and was chosen to form part of the South African team who traveled to New Zealand to participate at Neverland Dance Studios in 2015, one of New Zealand’s biggest Dance Studios, where they danced for up to six hours per day.
“This was an amazing opportunity for Megan and from there on there was no stopping her,” adds Marina. “She choreographed her own dances and got help from experts in the dance industry.”
“Megan loves being on stage and cannot wait for a competition or challenge,” she continues. “She was a born performer. Being able to have these opportunities is a blessing and she is thankful for everyone that has made it possible so far. She believes that God gave her the tools to be a performer and she will do her utmost to perform at her best.”
At the age of 14, Megan already has her goals for the future in place and is focussed on achieving them. She wants to grow and learn as much as possible and is working hard to become a Dance Teacher/Choreographer one day.
Megan, whose unrelenting drive and determination is bringing her ever closer to realising her dreams, encourages students to be a part of such an amazing experience
