During this time, Hindus offer fast and prayer to the Divine Mother, the goddess of learning, power, wealth, nature, the earth and also the great mother of all the divine cow.

Celebrated in various ways in different parts of India, Guru Sarverson from Shanti Nivas explained whatever boon you may ask of the Divine Mother, the one thing behind all these motives should be propitiation, worship and linking oneself with Her.

“This unique aim is yours not only in this particular occasion, but every moment of your life.”

This is because there is incessant struggle within every person. The inner self struggles to escape from the clutches of the various senses, being sheathed and suppressed by them.

“It constantly warns you to identify this self with the major self. It reminds you that you are on a return journey unto the place whence you started,” said Guru Sarverson.

Encouraging the community to form a stronger relationship with the Divine Mother, Shanti Nivas is inviting the community to celebrate Duruga Astami at the temple’s Goushala on Sunday.

On the day, the Shankara Goushala will be hosting a special Ghu puja and service in conjunction with the holy Navratri period.
