Dundee’s Lost Tales – The Miner’s Stew
While biting down on a piece of meat, one of the miners bit into something hard...

Mining is a sweaty business.
Anyone who has worked that hard knows it’s great for your appetite.
This was the idea behind one man’s way to make some money in the mid fifties at the Endumeni Mine.
Selling hungry miners some freshly made stew seemed like a good idea for both the miners and the man selling the stew. The stew became rather popular and provided a steady flow of income for the man for over a year.
That was until something grisly was discovered.
While biting down on a piece of meat, one of the miners bit into something hard – A human fingernail.
In horror, the miners called the police. An investigation confirmed that the stew was composed of human flesh. Four local teenage girls had gone missing that year. They were never found.
It was unknown if the man was responsible for their disappearance or if he killed them. Although he was arrested, details remained sketchy.
So if you come across a miner who doesn’t like stew, don’t be too surprised.
