#FinanceFriday: Finances should be a joint effort in every household
Being equally involved in household financial matters, makes it easier to plan and work towards a common goal such as securing a comfortable retirement one day.
When it comes to the management of finances in your home, who takes charge?
This should not be seen as a job solely meant for the man or woman of the house, but rather a joint effort between both partners.
In order to achieve a common financial goal, both parties need to work together when it comes to money matters.
Being equally involved with the finances makes it easier to plan and work towards securing a comfortable retirement in the future.
Women all too often allow the men to take complete charge of long-term financial planning, while they only focus on basic day-to-day expenditure.
This should not be the case.

These are important factors which women should consider when becoming more involved in the household’s finances:
Retirement:
The retirement age for women is 60 years and 65 for men. This therefore leaves women with fewer years to save for retirement.
Women usually outlive men; therefore it’s critical for women to take this into consideration when making long-term decisions.
Plan ahead:
Be involved in family finances and set clear future goals.
This will ensure you avoid unnecessary debt and continue providing financial support for your family.
Don’t overspend:
Be careful not to overspend too much. This could do severe damage to your future well-being.
Good financial habits and having long-term thinking as a family is crucial in ensuring you can retire comfortably.
