Joseph Shabalala confident as Ladysmith Black Mambazo jet off to Grammy Awards
Dr Joseph Shabalala, who is the founder of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, says he has no worries because he knows this is the best vocal group in Africa
Ladysmith Black Mambazo has been nominated in two categories at the 60th annual Grammy Awards.
The ceremony is set to take place on Sunday (January 28) at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Alfred Duma Local Municipality Mayor Vincent Madlala recently visited Dr Joseph Shabalala’s home with other local and countrywide stakeholders in support of Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s Grammy Award nominations.
The world-renowned Isicathamiya group that hails from right here in Ladysmith has been nominated in the categories of ‘World Music’ and ‘Best Children’s Album’.
The Ladysmith Black Mambazo team promise that they will come back with the two awards to make South Africa and Ladysmith proud of their music yet again.
Mayor Madlala passed his regards to the members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and spoke of how the municipality and the town of Ladysmith is proud of the group and its achievements.

The mayor also spoke of the Dr Joseph Shabalala Academy that is in the final stages of construction and how this project will be of great help to the local community and surrounding areas.
Dr Joseph Shabalala, who is the founder of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, says he has no worries with regards to the awards because he knows this is the best vocal group in Africa. This is evidenced by the fact that they are a record-breaking group, with the most Grammy Awards in Africa!
