Hot, racing action attracts huge crowd to Dundee drags

Shaiel Chunder of the EMC said the event was well organised and co-ordinated with safety being the number one priority.

Roaring engines and hot rubber were again on the agenda when the Endumeni Motorsport Club hosted the Dundee Drags 1/4 mile racing event at the Dundee Airfield on March 31.
Organisers said this event has become a highlight on the motor sport calendar in Northern KZN.
Spectators travelled from as far as Durban and Johannesburg.
Shaiel Chunder of the EMC said the event was well organised and co-ordinated with safety being the number one priority.
“Over 2000 spectators and 100 competitors attended. There was action all day long as cars and bikes lined up together to compete against each other and the timing sensors to see who could cover the 1/4 mile (400 metres) in the quickest times.

“Together we have proven that drag racing is a safe, fun and family orientated sport which has the same equal rights in society as all other major sporting codes. We are looking forward to our next event in June.

Wheel spin is always the biggest challenge as it loses the car or bike valuable time at the start and this is where the skill of the driver comes into play.”
Overall the fastest car of the day was Avinash Harpal with a black Skyline GTR that clocked in a time of 10.017 seconds and speed of 234.83km/h over the 1/4 mile. The fastest bike was ridden by K Moonsamy with a time of 9.683 seconds and speed of 239.92 over the 1/4 mile. The Endumeni Motorsport Club thanks all sponsors, spectators and competitors for their support.
