Car seats and plenty of rest stops are essential this Easter

“If you know that you are going to be travelling a long distance with your family this Easter, tips I can give parents is that before you get in the car to leave, make sure your children are properly strapped in. Use a suitable car seat.

The 2019 Easter holidays are a week away, and South African roads will be busy as families travel to their relatives and seek leisure and relaxation.

Mother of twin 6-year-old boys, Sunitha Ramsaroop, said it’s important to make sure both children and parents are prepared for the long road trip.

“If you know that you are going to be travelling a long distance with your family this Easter, tips I can give parents is that before you get in the car to leave, make sure your children are properly strapped in. Use a suitable car seat.

“If an accident should occur, you don’t want children flying through the window if they are not securely strapped in their car seats.”

“Children must also be in a comfortable position, so that they don’t distract you if they want to move around a bit. That is what I do with my boys.”

Ramsaroop added that rest is essential.

“We stop every two hours, so the children can be able to stretch, and we also stop at halfway rest-stops so that they can use the bathroom.
Most importantly, children must always be seen, not heard. Do not leave them alone in the car, and always hold them close because they might get hit by cars if they carelessly run around.”

The Newcastle Advertiser wishes everyone safe Easter holidays.

Buckle up for a safe journey and a safe return home.
