Slow down: Heavy rain resulting in waterlogged roads
Plan ahead if you are going on the road today and consider alternative routes if necessary.

The R30 between Bothaville and Orkney is under water following the recent heavy down pours,
was confirmed this morning by Sipho Towa, Chairperson , Free State RIMS (Road Incident Management Systems)
Towa urged road users to exercise extreme caution in the area and advised the following:
– Slow down: Reduce your speed to match the road conditions.
– Increase following distance*: Leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front.
– *Use low gear: When driving in heavy rain, use a lower gear to maintain control.
– Avoid flooded areas: If possible, avoid driving through flooded areas, as it’s difficult to gauge the depth of the water.
– Watch for hazards: Be aware of potential hazards such as potholes, debris, and animals.
– Use headlights: Turn on your headlights to increase visibility.
– Be prepared for hydroplaning: If your vehicle starts to hydroplane, take your foot off the gas and steer straight until you regain traction.

Stay safe, and consider alternative routes.
