Municipal traffic officers report for duty

Ngwathe's traffic department was dissolved in 2016 with most officers at the time transferred to the provincial traffic department.

For the first time in nine years, the Ngwathe Local Municipality has reinstated its municipal traffic department. The traffic department officially began operating on August 1 with their office located at the fire station.

According to the municipal manager, Dr F. Mothamaha, the re-establishment of the traffic department will not only help strengthen law enforcement within the municipal area but is also part of the continuous efforts to enhance revenue stream for the municipality.

Officers will ensure that road traffic laws and municipal bylaws are adhered to.

Municipal traffic officers will also be responsible for escorts through town—especially for abnormal loads, and the closing of streets for special events. Additionally, they will ensure that road signs are visible and that road markings are maintained.
