Young sailors take to the water at Lake Deneys Yacht Club
The Youth Sailing Nationals will be held in December
There’s a fresh wave of excitement building at Lake Deneys Yacht Club (LDYC) as young sailors of all skill levels take to the water in preparation for the highly anticipated Youth Sailing Nationals in December 2026.
From complete beginners learning the ropes to advanced competitors fine-tuning their race strategies, LDYC has become a hub of activity and growth for the next generation of sailors. Training sessions are in full swing, with coaches and volunteers working closely with participants to develop confidence, technique, and a love for the sport.
This year marks a significant milestone for LDYC, as it prepares to host a national sailing event for the very first time. The upcoming Youth Nationals will bring together some of the country’s top young talent for a challenging five-day regatta on the Vaal Dam — and the local sailing community is rising to the occasion.
The current youth sailing programme at LDYC is designed not only to prepare sailors for competitive racing but also to welcome newcomers looking to experience the thrill of being out on the water. With a supportive environment and growing enthusiasm, the club is encouraging aspiring sailors from across the region to get involved.

Whether aiming for a spot on the national stage or simply looking for a fun and rewarding outdoor activity, LDYC is quickly becoming the place to be.
As momentum builds toward December, the sails are up, and the future of youth sailing looks brighter than ever.
