Community unite in the fight against drugs

The community said they want the police and the municipality to take a firm stand against those selling drugs to children.

Community members gathered at the Parys Magistrate’s Court on May 27 to raise their voices in the
fight against drugs and the devastating effect it has on the community, as 65-year-old Wilson Rudolf,
accused of drug-related charges, appeared before
the court.

Rudolf was arrested during a drug bust in Schonkenville, with police following up on information regarding a residence allegedly linked to drug distribution activities.

During the operation, police seized 299 packets of nyaope, 104 packets of crystal methamphetamine, approximately 5kg of unpacked dagga, and two half Mandrax tablets at Rudolf’s house.

The value of the drugs is estimated at R10 000.

In addition, several electric tools, valued at approximately R12 000, were recovered.

These items are suspected to have been stolen and exchanged for drugs.

Rudolf, who was released on warning after bail procedures in April, will be in court again on June 29.

According to Ngwathe’s Ward 13 Councillor Mbuyiselo Tyumbu, angry community members also
gathered at Rudolf’s house after the court proceedings, saying they do not want him in town.

Last Friday, community members joined in a peaceful march against drugs and illegal foreigners.

They engaged with Noma Moloi, a member of the Mayoral Committee tasked with Public
Safety, sharing their concerns about illegal, undocumented foreign nationals who open spaza shops.

Community members said they want the police and the municipality to take a firm stand against those selling drugs to children.
