Police seek public assistance to trace person of interest in rape case
The incident happened in February this year.
The Tumahole Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit is appealing to members of the public for assistance in identifying and locating a person of interest in connection with a rape case under investigation.
It is alleged that on Saturday, February 14 at about 13:30, a 43-year-old woman was walking from Parys to her residence in Tumahole. Along the way, she noticed an unknown male walking in nearby bushes. The man was reportedly wearing white sneakers, black tracksuit pants, a red golf T-shirt, and a beanie bearing the words Head Master.
The victim further alleged that , while she was walking, the suspect approached her from behind, grabbed her, and held a knife to her neck. He allegedly demanded her cellphone, took R120 in cash from her handbag, and then raped her.
During the attack, the suspect reportedly covered the victim’s eyes with his beanie.

According to Sergeant Josephine Rani, the victim was able to associate the suspect with the unknown male she had observed earlier based on the clothing he was wearing.
Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene. The victim reported the matter to the Tumahole SAPS, and an investigation was initiated.
