Record number of South Africans apply to vote abroad

Remember that special votes can be cast on 6 and 7 May 2019.

No fewer than 30 532 voters applied to cast their vote in the National Elections at one of South Africa’s 121 foreign missions. Of these, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has approved 29 334.
In 2014, the IEC received 27 899 applications to vote outside the country, 26 716 of which were approved, and a total of 18 446, who actually then voted outside the country.
This year, London had the most applications, totalling 9 084. Voters whose applications have been approved will vote at the foreign mission indicated between 07:00 and 19:00 on Saturday 27 April 2019.
The 2019 National elections on 8 May are regarded as one of the most critical polls since 1994. The cut-off date for submissions of the list of candidates and payment of elections deposits by political parties was on 13 March. This week, on 18 March, the certification and publication of the final voters roll for the 2019 National and Provincial Elections took place.
