Potchefstroom – The Color Run will turn your world into a rainbow

The Color Run prepares for the event of the year in Potchefstroom this February.

On 20 February 2016, The Color Run South Africa will be kicking off right here in Potchefstroom.
Organisers have announced that Potchefstroom will be starting the year with the most vibrant and colourful event ever witnessed, and you can be a part of it.
The Color Run is a global event that started in the United States 5 years ago.
It has seen millions of happy Color Runners get turned into rainbows during an untimed 5km fun run, promoting healthiness, happiness and individuality.
The Color Run is the Happiest 5k on the Planet™ and is visiting Potchefstroom as part of its Varsity Town Tour 2016, following its successful tour in 2015. The main sponsor of this vibrant event is Capitec Bank which, like The Color Run, also “believes in health, happiness, individuality, giving back, living life in technicolour and having fun while caring about the community,” says Charl Nel, head of communications at Capitec Bank.
The Color Run is a fun-filled, family-friendly day where children under 10 can run for free. According to Trevor Latimer, national project manager for The Color Run, their focus is on healthy and happy living, and it will, therefore, be an alcohol-free event. Ofm will be there to entertain the runners with the hottest beats so they can dance in a technicolour rainbow.
Although this sounds like pure fun and games, The Color Run is about much more than just running in a sea of colours, it’s about giving back to the community.
The Color Run and Capitec Bank partnered with the NWU Potchefstroom’s SJGD (Studente Jool Gemeenskapsdiens), which has two community projects in need of help. R10 of each Color Run ticket sold will be allocated to the Adopt-a-School Project, supporting education in schools, and to students in need on campus.
“This is the biggest event series in the world,” says Latimer, who would also like to assure the community that the colour powder being used for the event is not at all toxic or harmful to humans, animals or plants.
The Color Run will kick off at the NWU RAG farm at 10:00 on 20 February. The route then goes through Oewersig and will end on the University grounds.
