Mayor answers to community frustration about fibre project
"The Fibre Project is a vital development for Tumahole, and we remain committed to ensuring its successful implementation and completion", the mayor said.

Following the community’s questions and unhappiness about a fibre project in Tumahole, the Ngwathe Executive Mayor, Cllr Victoria De Beer-Mthombeni today, Thursday 29 June, addressed the concerns raised with regard to the ongoing Fiber Project, saying that the project has been a source of frustration and confusion for many households and residents in the community.

She said it has come to her attention that the trenches were dug and left unattended for days, causing inconvenience and concern among the affected individuals. Additionally, there have been reports of non-payment of workers, further exacerbating the dissatisfaction surrounding the project, the mayor said.
“In response to these challenges, I, along with the councilors, held a meeting today with the project managers to thoroughly investigate the issues at hand. After engaging in productive discussions, we have reached a conclusion that aims to address the concerns raised by our community,” the mayor said.
As a way forward, it has been decided that each Ward councilor will host public meetings in their respective wards. These meetings will serve as a platform to outline the plan for the fiber Project and discuss the necessary steps to ensure its successful completion.
The mayor urged all residents to attend these meetings, as it will provide an opportunity for the community to voice their concerns, receive updates on the project, and actively participate in shaping its outcome.
“While we acknowledge the frustrations experienced by our community members, I must emphasize that resorting to acts of crime or violence is neither acceptable nor productive. We urge all residents to maintain their integrity and engage constructively in the public meetings and any subsequent discussions regarding the fiber Project. Working together, we can find effective solutions and achieve a positive outcome that benefits our entire community,” the mayor concluded.
She emphasized that It is a shared responsibility to foster an environment of respect, open communication, and collaboration. “The Fibre Project is a vital development for Tumahole, and we remain committed to ensuring its successful implementation and completion. Let us seize this opportunity to come together, address the challenges, and work towards a brighter future for our community.”
