Tumahole SAPS honoured for unwavering commitment to policing excellence

Dedication and hard work paying off for local police station.

Tumahole SAPS under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Juanita Janse van Rensburg proudly walked away with top honours as Station of the Year at the Fezile Dabi District’s 2025 Annual Excellence Awards Ceremony, held in Vanderbijlpark. This prestigious event recognised the station’s outstanding performance, dedication, and community impact over the past year.

Hosted by the Fezile Dabi District, and attended by the Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, and District Commissioner Major General Makubo, the event celebrated exceptional service and dedication within the South African Police Service (SAPS),  and reminded of the bravery, commitment and unseen sacrifices made by the men and women in blue,  acknowledging members who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty.

Motswenyane emphasised that behind every successful operation—whether it’s an arrest, a solved case, or a life saved—there are dedicated officers who work tirelessly, often without recognition. She praised the district for its continued efforts in crime-fighting, especially in partnership with local communities. Particular emphasis was placed on combating Gender-Based Violence and cross-border crime spilling over from neighbouring Gauteng.

Motswenyane further encouraged officers to remain motivated even when their efforts go unrecognised. “You may not always be applauded by your commanders, but know your work matters. Applaud yourselves and continue serving with pride,” she urged.

Awards were presented across several categories, including Administration, Visible Policing and Operations, and Specialised Units, culminating in the Station of the Year title, which went to Tumahole SAPS for its unwavering commitment to policing excellence.

The Bravery Award and a laptop, sponsored by Mr. Jimmy Shi, representing the South Africa Free State Fujian Overseas Chinese Association. was handed to Constable M. Mhlambi for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.
