Cash strapped Free State DoE spends R10,8 million on Women’s Day events
In 2022 the department incurred R232 666 000,00 of irregular expenditure with no disciplinary steps taken against individuals responsible.

In response to a DA question in the Free State legislature, the MEC for education, Mr Makalo Mohale, indicated that the Department of Education in the Free State spent an extravagant total of R10 769 242,89 on three Women’s Day events in August 2023. The events were held in Petrusburg on 19 August at a cost of R3 283 340,44 with 1300 attendees, Heilbron on 25 August at a cost of R3 740 673,95 with 1700 attendees and Bultfontein on 31 August at a cost of R3 745 228,50 with 1700 attendees.
