The Free State’s first Easter baby was born in Parys, today, 29 March.
According to Mondli Mvambi, Spokesperson for the Free State Department of Health, the baby boy was born at 00:01 in the Parys District Hospital, weighing a healthy 3,340kg.
The Free State in total warmly welcomed 39 Easter Babies as at 16:00. There are 20 baby boys and 19 baby girls.
Among the Easter babies was a twin brother and sister born at Nala District Hospital in Bothaville. The baby boy was born at 4:20 and the baby girl at 4:23.
Sadly, 1 baby boy was born before arrival at Boitumelo Regional Hospital in Kroonstad weighing 790g.
The Free State MEC for Health, Ms. Mathabo Leeto has sent her well wishes to all the new mothers with the bundles of joy and a message of consolation for the 1 case of stillbirth.
“The birth of a child is a blessing to a family and is a fulfilment of God’s purpose of human development. We have a responsibility as health professionals to give good counselling to those who experience complications and death”, the MEC said
She urged all citizens of the Free State to access family planning at public health care facilities for safe pre-conception.
She also pleaded with those that are pregnant or suspect that they are pregnant to immediately visit their clinics so that they can receive good health care checkups and professional advise on their new journey during pregnancy until post natal care.
* Earlier this year the Free State’s second New Year’s baby was born at the Parys District Hospital.
