Cyclist from three provinces to descend on Vaal

For those passionate about the sport, this event is not to be missed. Whether you're a competitor or a fan, the Gauteng Road and Time Trial Championships are set to be a spectacular showcase of South Africa's cycling talent.

Cycling enthusiasts are in for a treat as the combined Gauteng, Free State, and North West Road and Time Trial Championships descend on Riverlake in Lindequesdrif on Saturday, January 18, and Sunday, January 19. This much-anticipated event promises top-tier competition, pitting the finest cyclists from these provinces against one another on challenging courses designed to test both skill and endurance.

The men’s Under-23 and Elite road race will span an impressive 163.62km, featuring a total elevation gain of 1 764m. Meanwhile, the women’s Elite competitors will tackle a 136.35km course with an elevation gain of 1 470m. Fireworks are expected as cyclists battle it out on these gruelling routes, with every climb and descent sure to showcase their strength and determination.

The time trial, set over 27.7km, will add another layer of excitement. The course, with a total elevation gain of 288m, promises a fast-paced and fiercely contested race against the clock for the Elites and U23s. Entries for the championships closed on Sunday, January 12. A R100 penalty fee is levied on late entries.

With Riverlake’s picturesque yet demanding terrain setting the stage, the championships are poised to deliver a thrilling weekend of cycling excellence.
