Sasol donates technologically advanced fire truck to Fezile Dabi District Municipality

The donation arrives at a critical time for the region.

Sasol has donated a fully equipped, state-of-the-art fire truck to the Fezile Dabi District Municipality, officially handed over during a ceremony at the Moqhaka Local Municipality on Friday, March 13.

During winter, the Kroonstad Fire Station responds to up to 40 incidents per month, including frequent veld fires that account for a large share of its emergency calls. Until now, the station has covered the entire Moqhaka Local Municipality, along with part of the N1 highway, using only one 20 000-litre fire truck and a firefighter bakkie. The new vehicle significantly strengthens the station’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies.

The new fire truck is fitted with advanced, fit-for-purpose equipment, including a heavy‑duty bull bar, front-mounted electronic winch, slide-ladder gantry and a Hyper Sight thermal imaging camera. Sasol has also provided new personal protective equipment (PPE), and firefighters will undergo specialised training to operate the truck’s advanced systems. This comprehensive support package ensures the team can maximise the vehicle’s capabilities from day one.

Ntokozo Gcabashe, Senior Vice President for Sasolburg and Natref Operations, said the donation forms part of Sasol’s broader commitment to strengthening community safety and resilience.

“It is our duty to collaborate in improving community safety. This initiative reflects the type of partnership between the private and public sectors that delivers measurable impact in our communities,” Gcabashe said.
