N1 Roadblock to ensure road safety ahead of Easter holiday
As traffic on main routes is expected to increase over the Easter holiday, the roadblock aimed at promoting public awareness on safe driving practices and responsible road use.
Fezile Dabi District conducted a Safer Easter holiday roadblock on the N1 on Friday, March 27, as part of efforts to promote road safety during the busy Easter holiday period. The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (Free State), Gauteng Traffic, Ngwathe Traffic, and the Department of Public Safety. The Roadblock was conducted under the command of Lieutenant Colonel De Vos, the Station Commander of Parys.
The objectives of the roadblock were to enhance road safety and reduce accidents, injuries, and fatalities during the Easter holiday period. The operation also aimed to enforce compliance with traffic laws, including valid driver’s licenses, adherence to speed limits, ensuring vehicle roadworthiness and to detect and deter illegal activities such as drunk driving.

In addition, the initiative focused on increasing law enforcement visibility along the N1 to discourage reckless and negligent driving behaviour.

It also aimed to promote public awareness on safe driving practices and responsible road use and to ensure that vehicles transporting goods or livestock complied with relevant safety and legal requirements, said police spokesperson, sergeant Josephine Rani.
