The N1 near Winburg is closed due to community protest that commenced again at approximately 11:45 this morning, August 5.

According to Sipho Towa, Free State Road Incident Management System (RIMS) chairperson, members of the police are on scene and working to stabilise the situation

The road will be closed to traffic until further notice

Diversions:

• Traffic from Bloemfontein → Diverted to R30 (ZR Mahabane)
• Traffic at Kroonstad → Diverted to R34 towards Welkom, then take R30 to Bloemfontein
• Traffic from N5 → Diverted to R708 towards Theunissen

Road users are advised to be careful. If possible, use alternative routes and avoid the area.

• Follow instructions from law enforcement on scene.
