The Proteas squad for the upcoming tes match from 28 September – 2 October at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom is quite a mixed bag of youth and experience.

The biggest inclusion in the squad is that of Titans opener, Aiden Markram, who is set to make his test debut at Senwes Park in the opener’s slot with Dean Elgar.

The 22-year old Markram has had a brilliant year with the bat and completely warrants his call up for the opener’s spot. Markram will be looking to make his mark and stake claim to this position, especially considering the Proteas opening batsman’s woes of late.

Another possible debut call up could go to versatile all-rounder, Andile Phehlukwayo, who is the other debutant in the squad. The Dolphins all-rounder could bring in versatility and depth to the batting line-up if chosen.

Regular and experienced Proteas such as Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, Dean Elgar, Morne Morkel and Quinton de Kock will need to fire on all cylinders against a Bangladesh team who will need no second invitation to the pressure on the Proteas.

Keshav Maharaj may though be South Africa’s kingpin on a Senwes Park pitch that could turn a bit this early on in the season.
