Angels and Airwaves are an enigma; a one-of-a-kind band that evokes dreamlike atmosphere and magical moments with every lyric and musical note.
The band started as a side project for former Blink 182 vocalist and guitarist, Tom DeLonge but soon attracted a variety of new fans to its unique sound.
DeLonge gets the chance to expand his musical horizons with this band and has truly made it his own since forming the band in 2005. The band has had numerous lineup changes in recent years and currently has Tom DeLonge (guitars and vocals) and Ilan Rubin (drums, keyboard and bass) as part of its group.
Here are my top 5 songs from this rock band:
5. Love Like Rockets
The one-minute long intro gives this song a grandiose feel with the piano and strange synth sound effects coupled with an inaudible voice enhancing this feeling of the song. The lyrics “Do you feel alive?” have a great repeating tone that encompasses the song’s main feeling of love and all the emotion felt around it. “The stars in your eyes light up the sky and thoughts light a fire inside” is also one of the better lyrics in this track.

4. Young London
The guitar is what makes this song the catchy piece of music that it is.
The guitar notes go at a frenetic pace, almost like the heartbeat of someone who is in love.
This song from the album Love takes this concept to greater heights with young love and the various permutations in this day and age.
It also looks at the chemical nature of love and its impact on us physically – the lyric “Kiss-like flowers breathe in pheromones” is an example of this. One of my favourite songs from Angels and Airwaves’ critically acclaimed album.

3. A Little’s Enough
Tom DeLonge gets it right in this track from “We Don’t Need To Whisper” with superb tempo changes a catchy chorus and fantastic instrumentation. The drums also add to the pulse and heartbeat of the song. Once again, the memorable lyrics round off this song: “The cure is if you let in just a little more love, I promise you this, a little’s enough.”
This world definitely needs a little more love and its central message is one that any-one can relate to.

2. Secret Crowds
The distinguishable part of this song is definitely the drums and build-up to the guitar riff that sets the song in motion. The chorus is probably one of the best that DeLonge has written and has a great sing-along quality. The lyrics once again focus on love and the need to do more for another person. “Let our words spread hope like fire” is one of the more positive songs in Angels and Airwaves’ catalogue.

1. The Adventure
This is Angels and Airwaves’ first big hit and launched the band firmly out of Blink 182’s shadow at that time.
The song has positive lyrics and a great beat that enhances this atmosphere as well as a distinguishable piano riff and melody that takes it to another level. The build-up of instruments and their various sounds make this a really memorable song. DeLonge’s vocals are also spot on, especially in the verse as it grabs one’s attention from the outset. “Here we go, life waiting to begin” is a line that completes the picture of life being one amazing and crazy adventure.
