Mandla Mbotho, a matric learner from Potchefstroom Boys High and a member of Alternative Studios, won the presti-gious title of Mr Jnr Africa 2016 at a high-profile event at the Protea Hotel O.R. Tambo in Kempton Park on Saturday 25 June.
He regards this victory as the first big step towards building a bright future and intends to work the title to make a difference in the lives of other needy people.
Mandla wants to get involved in various charity projects and be a positive role model to other young people, encouraging them to chase their dreams through dedication and hard work.
“I firmly believe that one should invest in the community and try to make this world a better place for everybody,” he says.
He started getting involved in the modelling business to work on his confidence and self-esteem and, during the course of a few months, he won six of the most prominent titles in South Africa.
After winning the Face of Potch competition, Mandla was named Mr Valley 2016 by Sun International. Shortly thereafter he won Mr Tourism South Africa 2016.
When competing at the Supreme King of South Africa pageant, Mandla managed to obtain the title and was also the overall winner, claiming the Ultimate Grand Supreme King (South Africa) 2016 title.
His skills on the ramp were once again rewarded last week when he was selected as Best Model S.A 2016.
Mandla is also a very active sportsman, excelling in athletics, rugby and hockey. He plans to study law and psychology next year and to continue his modeling career, with his sights on international possibilities.
