The saying, ‘What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, is something that should not apply to Las Vegas pop-punk band, Tonight We Fight, whose music should be heard across the world.
The band’s roots may be in Vegas but they are constantly branching out with their catchy and melodic tunes using various influences to create their own sound. The band currently consists of Brandon Dold – vocals; Stephen VonDoom – guitar; Mikey Williams – guitar; Cameron Gile – bass and Brian Bako Z drums.
Here is a list of my five favourite songs from this upcoming band.
Honourable mentions: ‘For What It’s Worth’, ‘Rock Bottom’.
5. The Wild
This acoustic number from the album, Where You’ve Been, starts off this list in a mellow and heartfelt way that showcases a different side to this pop-punk band. The raw nature of this song is what really stands out as vocalist Brandon Dold truly sings his heart out in this one: ‘I’m here at a truck stop, states away from home. I wonder if you miss me, if you know I’m even gone.’ The nostalgic and melancholic nature of this song is also one of the band’s trademarks and is perfectly summed up here. Sometimes, things do not work out for a reason but the memories and hope will always remain. The use of the harmonica also adds to the acoustic nature of ‘The Wild’.

4. Meanwhile
‘Meanwhile’ is the song that introduced me to this five-piece pop-punk group and, in under two minutes, it does everything it needs to do. Short, sweet and to the point. The song focuses on rejection and missed chances and feeling alone after going through a break up: ‘We are stuck in the beds that we made’ sums up the song. The breakdown at the end is also a nice addition that pumps up the aggression and frustration in the lyrics.

3. Burnout

This song opens with a familiar guitar riff, typical of pop-punk before it reaches a higher notch with VonDoom and Williams cracking open the distorted guitars to create a unique heavy sound. Brandon Dold showcases his vocal and lyrical capabilities with the opening line, ‘You’re just like a drug and I made you a habit’. This song is all about dysfunctional relationships and how the vocalist feels burnt out from trying too hard to make things work all on his own. This is a very relatable song and one of the reasons why a lot of pop-punk fans will be able to get into the band’s music. The dual guitar riff in the bridge is also a great change of pace to the song.

2. Solace
This is one of Tonight We Fight’s best songs, mostly for its duration, complexity and various musical and lyrical themes. The song focuses on heartbreak and the personal road that a person has to take to understand the sad moments in order to grow in life. ‘Now my back is bent and my hands are bruised, it’s nothing compared to what you put me through. It was my dusk now I’ll make my dawn, finally, it’s me that’s moving on’. The drumming from Bako is also great on this track as he keeps it simple while adding some great variations to keep things fresh. The chorus is also one of the band’s best with, ‘It’s a long road but I’ve been taking it all in stride. It’s been a long time since I’ve slept easy at night. And I learned that keeping it all in eats you up inside. Now it’s safe to say that I’m okay yeah, I’ll be fine.’ The outro and bridge are also one of the better parts of the song that rounds everything up nicely.

1. Infamous

The dual guitar work in this acoustic based song is one of the highlights that grabs the listener from the start. The lead electric and acoustic guitar merges perfectly and sets the scene for the rest of the track. ‘Was it worth it, what you gave up for what you gained? You are an infamously perfect mess’. Dold really does a stellar job in the delivery of the lyrics as he creates a real sense of passion and emotion that fits in perfectly with the musical quality of the song. This is a real heart-warming number that reminds society that the past should not be seen as a burden and that there is perfection in one’s imperfection.
