Creating a culture of art in Ikageng

“There are not a lot of success stories around Ikageng, so we aim to inspire young people to be dreamers.”

The vibration of colour plays a central part in young people’s everyday expression. It could range from music all the way to fashion and a new art gallery in Ikageng could extend that expression.
In a first of its kind, artists Chiks Pheto and Joy Cashibe from Kanana have teamed up to create a unique art-influenced gallery that focuses on selling used or refined clothing and African-inspired accessories like sneakers, wristbands and bandanas.
Pheto, a self-acclaimed “creative, peaceful nomad”, has shed light on the opening of the concept store.

“We started a concept store to change the mindset of society at large.
“There are not a lot of success stories around Ikageng, so we aim to inspire young people to be dreamers,” he says.
The duo has set their sights on leaving a positive legacy in the “hood” and influencing the up- coming generation through fashion and the arts.
The gallery is open to the public every Friday to Sunday, from 12:00 to 19:00 and is located in Kanana (near Nkosi Street).
