MooiMed Hospital was licensed as a private day-hospital [five beds, one theatre] in 1997 and turned the first sod during the July of the same year. The hospital opened its doors to the greater community of Potchefstroom on 8 March 1998. Its purpose was to provide affordable, private healthcare services. The growth in the medical industry and more access to medical aids were the main influences behind MooiMed’s application for additional beds. The stakeholders identified a gap in the market and applied for a full acute hospital licence.
