Municipality warns residents of impersonator

These "employees" demand payments from community members to the value to 3000 into their personal account, falsely claiming affiliation with the JB Marks Local Municipality.

The J.B. Marks Municipality has sent out a notice to the public to be on alert for individuals who have been posing as municipal employees.

These “employees” demand payments from community members to the value to 3000 into their personal account, falsely claiming affiliation with the JB Marks Local Municipality.

“The person is allegedly threatening to cut off people’s electricity if they don’t pay. The JB Marks Local Municipality completely distances itself from any such activities and advises residents not to engage with these individuals,” states J.B. Marks municipal spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite.

“Our Municipal Employees are strictly prohibited from soliciting payments directly from residents into personal accounts. Any such requests should be considered illegitimate and reported immediately.”

Tshite added that any suspicious behaviour or request should be immediately reported to the relevant authorities. Residents can contact the Debt Collection Service of the Municipality on 018 299 5181 to confirm if their account appears on the cut-off list or not.
