NWU Cross-Country trio to represent SA at World Champs

These three athletes will want to make their university and country proud in Serbia.

Serbia awaits three top NWU cross-country athletes who will represent South Africa at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Belgrade on Saturday, 30 March.

Rico Leijenaar (men’s u.20 8 km), Danielle Verster, and Christopher Swart (both mixed 4×2 km relay) will represent the NWU, Athletics Central North West (ACNW) and their country at these championships.

Christopher Swart, Danielle Verster and Rico Leijenaar is ready to represent the NWU and South Africa at the World Cross Country championships in Serbia.

Mathews Leeto (ACNW) will compete in the men’s senior 10 km race.

Both Leijenaar and Verster are former Potch Gimmie learners.

They form part of a 28-member team announced by Athletics South Africa.

The final selection was based on the athletes’ performances at the 2023 ASA Cross Country Championships in Gqeberha and the ASA Cross Country trials in Potchefstroom.
