Clashes of the Mighty: A life-saving competition

Potchefstroom schools unite to save lives, donating 240 units of blood during inspiring SANBS Clashes of the Mighty campaign.

The Clashes of the Mighty blood donation competition took place on May 6 and 7, featuring two dedicated schools, which are Hoƫrskool Volkskool and Gimnasium Potchefstroom.

The initiative, in collaboration with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), aimed to collect 150 units of blood from each school. The campaign focused on encouraging learners, especially those who recently turned 16, as well as parents and community members, to register as new donors.

A special emphasis was placed on boosting the blood group O panel, which remains critical in saving lives. We are proud to announce that Hoƫrskool Volkskool exceeded expectations by collecting 160 units of blood while Gimnasium Potchefstroom contributed a commendable 80 units.

These efforts reflect a growing culture of compassion and civic responsibility among our youth and their communities.

Now in its second year, this tradition, which began in 2024, continues to inspire and unite. As the SANBS, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to both schools for their enthusiastic participation, and we warmly invite other schools to join this noble cause in the years to come.
