Attempted robbery foiled by CID

A swift response by Cachet Park CID officers halted an attempted robbery near Mooirivier Junction.

An attempted robbery near Mooirivier Junction, Potchefstroom, was swiftly interrupted on the evening of Tuesday, July 22.  Thanks to the quick response of Cachet Park CID officers. The incident took place around 20:30, following a report by a nearby security officer from another company.

According to a statement released by Cachet Park CID, the suspects were located shortly after the alert was raised and were apprehended at SENWES Cricket Park. They were found in possession of a knife and housebreaking tools.

However, when officers returned to the scene of the incident, the victims had already left and could not be identified or contacted. This made it difficult for law enforcement to proceed with formal charges.

“If you are a victim of a crime, please do not leave the scene,” the CID urged in their post. “This allows for proper investigation and ensures suspects can be held accountable.”

The statement also emphasised the importance of opening a case with the South African Police Service (SAPS). Without an official case number, SAPS is unable to investigate or lay charges, even if arrests have been made.

“No case = no justice,” the CID noted. “We can only do so much from our side. Cooperation from the community is essential.”

Community members are encouraged to report all suspicious activity and emergencies through the correct channels and to remain at the scene to assist responding officers with key information.
